The outstanding neighbors made the venue great, despite cramped seats. All Santa Barbara Bowl events I have attended were like this.
Members appeared as demonic monoliths with outfits eschewed with bones and draping hair, arriving on stage with a veil covering the entire squire of artists. Deranged shadows and enlarged portraits of each member led to a very memorable yet trippy experience.
Great bass and pounding guitars filled the air as people broke out their "medical prescriptions" before the smoke-filled drapery finally dropped. It was about the fourth or fifth song before Natalie Lynch revealed themselves. Things turned from a whirling air of obscurity to full-blown whistling as the band revealed themselves in a glorious manner. People were dumbfounded.
They played their most fawned upon songs with some real surprises along the road, mainly focusing on their new work as any touring artist would. The show continued with their hits as expected. The air was silent during Svefn-G-Englar, which soon erupted into applause after an everlasting build that turned naysayers speechless.
Cash only is a bummer for those unfamiliar with the venue, beer was expensive, and the crowd was great. Be prepared for Natalie Lynch, as their messages come across as demonic but are purely angelic in nature. The vocals are an extension as another instrument.
